To the Brothers and Sisters of IBEW Local 175:
The following information is intended to make you aware of how IBEW Local 175 has responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the most significant changes to our normal business is the suspension of all meetings at IBEW Local 175. Moving forward, there will be no Union or Unit meetings in March, April or May. This is by notice of IBEW International President Lonnie Stephenson. We are open to in-person visits by appointment only. Also, there are no meetings allowed in the building under current COVID-19 restrictions.
The IBEW Local 175 staff are working remotely. If you need to conduct business call the Local Office @ 423.894.3557. Keep in mind, sometimes you may get voicemail. If you leave a message someone will get back to you.
Beginning Monday April 6, 2020, IBEW Local 175 will be open from 8 AM to 5 PM on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. The IBEW Local 175 office will be closed on Tuesday and Friday until further notice. We are practicing shelter-at-home to do our part in ending the pandemic. Despite these changes, the business of IBEW Local 175 is still being conducted .
One of the most valued human gestures is the handshake. When someone extends a hand, we've learned the value in extending ours. That practice has weathered many storms and held fast. The CoronaVirus seems to love that gesture as much as we do. Please, as an act of kindness, just nod, speak, wink or design a greeting of your own but keep your space clear and your hands in your pocket. Protect everyone. Please stay at home if you're sick. If you're tired of hearing this, realize that everyone is saying it for a good reason. As of March 31st, over 41,000 humans have lost their lives to the virus. Please, if you're sick, stay home. Please notify and self-quarantine if you have been in a HOT ZONE such as New York, Detroit , Chicago, Baton Rouge or New Orleans. Don't expose people to this virus by not telling them where you've been. Please, don't share the virus. Please quarantine. There is a whole world of information available about the signs and symptoms of the virus. To learn more go to nabtu.org/covid-19-resources.
As much as I would like to tell you when the pandemic will end, you know that I can't. None of us can. For that reason, Local 175 will be working under a much different model than we're all accustomed to. Please know that our priority is your safety. Your employment is high on the list, but injured or worse, you won't be at your best.
I will give a weekly online update on activities, situations and business. We are working with all our partner organizations and employers to ensure the safety of IBEW members as many of you continue serving in the Critical Infrastructure System. Please visit the Job Information page for an update to IBEW Local 175's referral policy.
